.....I call up the airline to be sure that they will allow me to pay for Brandon's flight over the phone. While on hold, I redial Brandon's number on my cell phone. When he answers, I tell him he needs to go back to the airport and fill out a lost ticket application. Silence. "Brandon, are you there?" "Yeah, I think you got the wrong person. I got some tickets for Brandon Weaver but my name is Brandon Hill." He has the tickets and will be home all day. I check my caller ID for Brandon's number against the number I just dialed...two numbers had been transposed on my notepad! I must have called the wrong number, which happened to be another Brandon, when I called for his mailing address. What a coincidence! I was thanking God that I manually typed in the phone number to reveal where the tickets were.
The airline will let Brandon fly standby later in the day. Now, he needs to go get the tickets. He travels down to a rough part of down town Atlanta to meet this other Brandon. He calls me again since no one is answering the door. I had just talked to him and he seemed pretty out of it. I try calling the man again while Brandon continues to knock. He tries the door knob and it’s unlocked. So Brandon goes into the house, back into the bedroom, wakes up the sleeping man with a, “Hi, I’m Brandon. Do you have my tickets?” The man was pretty wasted but gave the tickets back before crashing again. As Brandon and his wife were leaving, they saw a kid walking down the road holding a gun!
When Brandon and I talked again, he commented, “AIM is living up to its name (
Adventures in missions) already and I haven’t even left yet!” Now, to pray that he makes his standby flight…
All this occurred before noon! My co-worker and I were talking over the morning events and realized how important it is for us to be covering the summer missions trips in prayer. God is sending an army of His people into the field this summer. The enemy is going to try and stop that. Please be in prayer this summer for our project leaders, staff, and the participants.
Update: Both Heather & Brandon got on their standby flights and arrived safely in New Mexico. Praise God!!
